Sammy Smeaton

About Sammy

Sammy is a Yoga Alliance–qualified teacher and lifelong student of Hatha Yoga. She has been practicing for over 25 years, with 248 hours of accredited teacher training. Over the years, she has also led yoga and hiking retreats, run workshops, and deepened her own practice of meditation, which she began more than 24 years ago on her first Buddhist retreat.

Her teaching is inspired by a love of yoga’s philosophical, historical, and spiritual roots. She enjoys chanting and has completed additional training in Pranayama breathwork and Polyvagal Theory, exploring the therapeutic power of yoga for both body and mind. Sammy sees yoga as a lifelong journey—a continuous path of learning—and brings this openness into both her personal practice and her teaching.

Outside the studio, Sammy’s life is full of family and adventure. She and her husband have five grown-up children and four grandchildren, who often come home from time with their grandma chanting yoga mantras. She loves spending time in nature with her family and dog, and enjoys hiking, cycling, kayaking, and swimming outdoors. One of her proudest achievements was trekking to Annapurna Base Camp in Nepal.

Sammy’s style of teaching blends traditional yoga wisdom with modern scientific understanding, weaving together philosophy, practice, and evidence-based knowledge to connect the past with the present.

Sammy’s intention in every class is that students leave feeling grounded, balanced, and uplifted—calm in both body and mind, yet energized for daily life. She hopes her students carry a sense of connection, clarity, and self-compassion off the mat and into the wider world.
