AMY DAVIES
Mindfulness, Meditation and Yoga Teacher

About Amy

Amy is from South Yorkshire but also lived in London and Australia before moving to Manchester nine years ago.

She has been practising yoga, in different ways for over 10 years. It has seen her through many changes in life and brought much joy and discovery.

Why did you become a teacher, Amy?

I completed my BWY (British Wheel of Yoga) Foundation Diploma in 2016. This deepened my practice considerably. I found that I was offering yogic tools to others (although not explicitly calling it this) in my busy, office-based, managerial role at the time. I went onto teacher training to learn more and be able to share the teachings and techniques of yoga with others.

In 2018, I developed a pain and fatigue health condition and was not able to practice asana for many months. I turned my attention to mindfulness-based meditation and somatic movement practices to support my health, along with greater study of yogic philosophy.

Through my experiences, I learnt a lot (and continue to do so) about the neuroscience of pain, energy regulation and how the central nervous system works. I completed the Breathworks ‘Mindfulness for Health’ programme, through “Manchester Living with Fatigue and Pain service”. These practices have been transformational for me and I was passionate about the potential they could offer others. Shortly after finishing this course I completed training in the foundations of teaching mindfulness meditation. I continue to deepen my own practice and study.

Amy completed her three year, 500 hour yoga teacher training in 2021.

Can you describe your teaching style?

My style of practice emphasises developing ease of being, a deeper sense of embodiment and gently building mobility, strength and resilience. I like to explore fluid, subtle movement along with yoga asana, breath work and functional relaxation. Slowing down and focussing on cultivating awareness to the breath and how our bodies feel. The thread of compassionate mindful awareness is woven into all my teachings.
